Introduction to Basic Camp Administration

Introduction to Basic Camp Administration will be offered June 22-26, 2009 at Gallaudet University. Financial assistance is now available.

This course educates current and future camp directors in the administration of camp operations, including health and safety issues, staff organization and recruiting techniques, risk management, and other important aspects. Emphasis is placed on the philosophies, principles, and practices adopted by the American Camp Association (ACA) specific to the requirements for the ACA certification. The course is designed to present specific content in the following management areas:

  • Camp director’s job and leadership style
  • Program design and goals
  • Characteristics of program participants
  • Staff organization/recruitment
  • On-campus recruitment
  • Job descriptions
  • Risk management
  • Problem-solving techniques
  • Health, food, and transportation services
  • Marketing business and finances

Merrill Lynch Entrepreneur Leadership Training

Merrill Lynch Entrepreneur Leadership Training will be offered July 6-10, 2009 at Gallaudet University. The Entrepreneur Leadership Training program is a 1-year certificate program that provides a model for the delivery of professional programs for deaf entrepreneurs and business organizations. Gallaudet Leadership Institute developed this program in collaboration with the National Deaf Business Institute. The program is designed to develop the leadership potential of deaf business owners, and other deaf professionals, as well as to provide an environment where participants can learn from other deaf professionals who have experienced the challenges of establishing and expanding a business and succeeded. By increasing awareness of opportunities and knowledge of business practices the program will also lead to increased opportunities for deaf entrepreneurs.

Project Managment for Beginners Offered in April 2009

Coming in April 2009, Gallaudet University and Flagler College of St. Augustine, Florida, are sponsoring Project Management for Beginners, a 3-credit course presented in hybrid format of face-to-face and online. The initial face-to-face classroom work will occur on April 27-29, 2009, at Flagler College.

Olweus Bullying Prevention Training July 2009

Clemson University’s Olweus Bullying Prevention Program Directors will be conducting a Training of Trainers (TOT) at Gallaudet University from July 8-10, 2009, and again in the spring of 2010. The training is for highly qualified professionals who would like to become a certified Olweus Bullying Prevention Program (OBPP) trainer.

Deaf Women’s Leadership Workshop: Leadership in the New Economy

Workshop Description

The Deaf Women’s Leadership Program provides Deaf women with an energizing focus on self-awareness, exploration, actualization, and leadership development to improve participants’ quality of life. Workshop modules are offered by nationally recognized deaf women with profound knowledge and experiences in leadership. Workshop topics include leadership styles; deaf women leadership: Catalyst for economic change; working in hearing environment; financial security for deaf woman in a downward economy; seeking and achieving balance life; caring for children or aging parents and working outside of the home and community commitment; and aerobics for busy minds.

Program Description

Project Management is a 3-credit course presented in a hybrid format of face-to-face and online using American Sign Language. The online component uses Gallaudet University’s state-of-the art Blackboard Learning System.

This course is based on the philosophies, principles, and practices adopted by the Project Management Institute (PMI). As one of the fastest growing professional disciplines in North America, Project Management helps you to get a firm grip on an unwieldy workload by breaking it down into manageable steps. Program content will cover requirements for certification in Project Management by Project Management Institute (PMI). Course participants will develop knowledge and skills in project management.

They will be provided with the tools they need for preparing their organizations to support the projects they manage. Participants will develop a real-life project management plan they can use to manage projects in their professional and/or personal lives.
