Neuropsychological Assessment Conference Held November 14-15, 2008

On November 14 and 15, Gallaudet University presented the conference “Making Connections: Neuropsychological Assessment and Applications with Individuals who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.”

Hosted by the Department of Psychology, and coordinated by CPSO’s conferences and events planner Sherry Duhon, the conference was created for the purpose of bringing together professionals in the field of deafness and psychology already trained or possessing a developing interest in neuropsychological assessment and interventions.

Gallaudet International Work Group Luncheon Hosted by CIPS

Dr. Asiah Mason, Director of CPSO's International Programs and Services (CIPS)

On October 3, 2008, the Center for International Programs and Services hosted a luncheon meeting

for the Gallaudet International Work Group.  This a group for Gallaudet’s faculty and staff members who are interested and are involved in doing international work.

They met to share each others’ work and interests and also to discuss and provide feedback on the new proposed guidelines and procedures for Gallaudet’s international work.  This monthly event also allows faculty and staff members to highlight the work their students are doing overseas.

A special guest at the event was Dr. Jordi Serat, a Visiting Researcher at Gallaudet.  He is a professor at the University of Vic, Barcelona.

SLCC Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony Highlights Deaf Space Angle of New Building

On behalf of the staff of CPSO, we’re pleased to present Gallaudet’s new James Lee Sorenson Language and Communication Center (SLCC) building. On September 3, a ribbon-cutting ceremony took place to officially open SLCC to the community.

Bridge-Building Discovery Program Lends Helping Hand

This past summer, CPSO staffers handled the logistics and planning to bring the Discovery Program to campus.  The program was a success and Inside Gallaudet has posted an interesting article about the program.  Here is an excerpt of the article:

One of Personal Discovery’s Many Friends Lends A Hand

The giant oak tree on the hill beside Washburn Arts Building provided years of solid support for many of the Personal Discovery Program’s structures. When it died last year, Discovery needed to have the tree removed and replaced with something that would give the same degree of safety to the many groups who use the facilities for team- and confidence-building exercises.
